business engineer // entrepreneur // creative technologist // hacker

I finished Super Mario before I could write my name.
Sjoerd Bodbijl
Due to the proximity to Philips I grew up in the smarterst part of the world.
I was lucky π to have direct exposure to technology in Eindhoven because my dad was a π¨πΌβπ» software engineer. Always the fastest PC π₯ of neighbourhood instead of a cool π. I was allowed to break anything but couldn't get away by solving every problem with a π¨.
βFriends call me MacGuyver because I β€οΈ building stuff. β
Sjoerd Bodbijl
I like to blend digital with real life with craftmanship. I made a birdhouse π₯π in the shape of a google πΊ maps location icon π. I explore new shiny β¨technology like when I letting an old phone ring as doorbell with an new Arduino chip. And sometimes I start from scratch to build a chromecast speaker.

My β€οΈ for problem solving
During a bachelor in technical business engineering I learned to apply lean practices at manufacturing companies . Beeing forced to solve for problems though me to be comfortable with the unknown. And while starting out with uncertainty around challenges I will always find a solution.
I specialized in π° value creation during a MSc in Finance & Investments
During my MSc and the aftermath of the '08 financial meltdown I had a side job at Atradius. Cold calling CFO's to sell credit insurances was awesome. I realised as long as I start the conversation with a relevant question it is possible to talk to anybody.
Accepting a different carreer
The financial crisis of 2008 whiped out pretty much all investment banking jobs. So I accepted a position as financial manager in a cleaning company. A half year into my role my business associate was struck by a heart attack. I managed the cleaning company and it's daily operations the following year. The first thing I realised managing people was I had to work for them and not the other way around.
Liftup a better tool for the job
With an innovative scaffolding machine I tried to disrupt the dutch scaffolding industry. Powered by a normal hand drill this portable lifts anybody up to 15 meter. With this innovation every possible job can be executed at ideal working level for 10% of the price of traditional equipment. I didn't succeed in bringing this innovation to Europe.
For every succesful entrepreneur 99 have failed, we need entrepreneurs that are willing to risk everything to build a better world.

The future is here it's just not evenly distributed.
I founded GETARTWORK to share the creativity of Vincent van Gogh.
